Baby Snow Leopard needs a name
Two endangered snow leopard cubs (a male and a female) were born on May 25th, 2009 at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, WA. The female cub has been named Batu, which means firm, hard and honest in Mongolian.
The zoo is conducting a poll to name the male cub. Voting is open now, you can go to the zoo Web site and pick from one of four names:
- Gobi (go-bee), for the Gobi Desert in Mongolia
- Boke (sounds like poke), which means strong
- Irbis (ear-biss), which means leopard
- Vachir (voch-err), which means thunderbolt
Voting ends at midnight on Aug. 12. The winning name will be announced with the cubs make their public debut on August 15.
